Rose Bruno Bailey weight loss

Weighing in: My goal weight is 135.

Good Morning — Happy Friday to all. I am excited to announce I bought a scale. My old one broke in our recent move from Los Angeles to the Bay Area — and it took me a while to replace it. I finally stepped on and I am the same weight, which means I got through my difficult transition from LA to San Francisco and the holidays without putting on any weight. I was terrified to step on that menacing glass contraption but I needed to face my fears and I am so happy I did. No weight gain after my last few months is a huge victory for me.

I am nowhere near finished, though. It has been a while since I dropped weight and I said I was going to focus on fitness and not the scale and I stick to that plan. However, I do need a way to measure. This is how I look at it, typically:

  • My before weight — before I started this fitness plan and blog, etc. — was 210.
  • My current weight is 165.
  • My goal weight is 135.

I am very curvy, with muscular legs. I have a classic hourglass figure but I am only 5-3, so I feel 135 would be the perfect weight for my body type and height. I have problem spots I need to work on, and being a lower weight will help.

I am researching my next charity, and this time I am planning on doing an online raffle to raise money for a non-profit in my area. I am looking into ideas and touching base with the people who run the non-profits.

My brain feels a bit sleepy today; it is amazing how the sun feeds your energy. There is less sunlight here than in Los Angeles, and I really notice a difference in the way I feel first thing in the morning. The fog makes me want to stay in bed but instead I will conquer the day. It is Friday — a long day at work and a day off from my workout plan.

Back at the workout grind tomorrow on my Saturday off.

Have a wonderful Friday

Revisiting my fitness bucket list

The photo you see here was my view doing yoga (in forward fold) on a helipad on top of a building in LA. I love to see things from different perspectives.
Good Morning to all. Let’s start with a basic question:
What are you doing today, this week, this year to make your goals a reality?
Dreams are never lofty thoughts that cannot come to fruition as long as you believe.

What would life be like if we were all perfect? We would have nothing to strive for, nothing to motivate us to be the best versions of ourselves.

I love that feeling of being challenged, of starting anew. I have so many goals: personal, artistic, creative, fitness, and philanthropic. I am always trying to shoot for the stars. I have a fitness bucket list, for example. I thought it might be helpful to share it here — it makes me more accountable, and maybe it will inspire others as well.

1. Trapeze Classes
I am actually doing this one! It will happen in the next few months based on my work with Melissa Bender Fitness. I’m excited — and get ready for a post with a ton of pictures (and maybe even a video).

2. Sign up and compete another race.

3. Do a month long yoga challenge, working on my home and studio practice

4. A workout video with Melissa Bender Fitness

5. Take a surfing lesson this summer

6. Aerial Classes

7. Yoga photos around San Francisco

8. Obtain exercise certifications

9.Send my story to a weight loss magazine to be featured in I did it section

10. Lose 30 more pounds

(In terms of the race/run, I’m thinking about a Color Run. There is a Color Run in San Francisco, although the exact date for 2015 hasn’t been determined. My husband James loves Las Vegas, and there’s a Color Run there in late February. Hmmmm.)

This is a very streamlined version of my list, and I will be updating it soon and adding more items. I want to be able to be challenged and make my goals a reality.  Since I began in 2013  I did a few really interesting things. I was in a Richard Simmons video, as well as doing a 5k and missed the turn and completed the 10k. I also planked for over five minutes and beat my Los Angeles trainer Mike, and  he was a very good sport about it.

My wish today for you is that you have the hope of a child, the enthusiasm of a cheerleader, the determination of an athlete. Inspiration is everywhere for the taking.

12 Bean Vegetarian Chili

Easy recipe for 12-bean vegetarian chili

I love to make soups and vegetarian chili. They are so easy and tend to last a few days.

This recipe is so easy; I whipped it up in no time and it was delicious and healthy.

Ingredients
1 bag dry 12 bean soup (Use just the beans and not the seasoning)

1 whole onion

5 celery stalks

6 cloves of garlic

Dry Basil

2 cartons low sodium vegetable broth

Ground Pepper

4 cans fire roasted tomatoes

1 can corn rinsed and drained

2 bags chili seasoning from McCormick

You may need to soak the beans overnight — or do a quick soak (30 minutes) beforehand. Place the beans in cold water and boil on high for two minutes, then let them sit for one hour, rinse and you are ready to cook.

Saute onion and celery til clear and then add the garlic and saute for a few more minutes. Add the soaked and rinsed beans and the two cartons of vegetable broth. Season with pepper, basil and add tomatoes and corn. Add the two packets of chili spices and let cook on low for an hour and a half. When you are finished you can add some fat free sour cream or non fat greek yogurt.

It is delicious and truly a simple recipe.

Enjoy! Namaste’

Best Foot Forward

I am on day nine of my workouts that I am doing since I became a fitness ambassador for Melissa Bender Fitness.I am doing the 12 weeks of bikini competition workouts and feeling great. http://www.benderfitness.com/2013/02/my-first-bikini-competition-prep-month.html

I ran to the running store yesterday, since I do have my share of challenges as I progress. I have a foot/toe injury and I feel so much better when I have inserts from a running store. It takes the pressure of the front of my foot and it really makes a difference how my feet feel all day. I am now putting my best foot forward and chasing after my goals pain free.
My diet is on track and you can find my food journal on my facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/MyChangeForATen
When I work I usually eat the same things in the am and afternoon, to make it easier to plan.
Week two is underway, and I am so happy to be back in the swing of things. I had two months off from the move and it really depressed me, I need those endorphins.
I am looking into doing a raffle for my next charity, and raffling off something exciting. The photo on this post holds a hint of what I will be raffling off. I have not been on the scale in a while, since I have been focusing on my fitness and clean eating and trying not to obsess. I will do another weigh in soon and I am purchasing a new scale tonight since mine broke in my move.
Off for my day, I admit I am a little sleepy this morning, it is that darn San Francisco fog. Much different then the LA sun I am used to.
Happy Transformation Tuesday to allplaystation

MIND BODY SPIRIT

trainsandtrees6
I think to be fit in body one must be fit in mind and spirit. I am a firm believer in a mind/body/spirit connection.  It all begins in our thoughts, and  our thoughts can be transformed into actions. I am one who finds solace in nature, and creating art. Working out helps balance my happiness as well as my fitness, as does channeling my creative and philanthropic side. When I do cardio, I prefer to do so outdoors so I can benefit from what I call mobile meditation. I get lost, I am a wanderer, wondering always about what is to come and pushing the limits on my dreams. The sky is the limit and I am forever reaching in my sun salutations for the sun above. I find weight loss is not such a lofty goal when you finally make the connection.
Check out my facebook page to see some of the tree photos I snapped on my running path. https://www.facebook.com/MyChangeForATen
Friday night my workout was done at midnight, yes it was late but I preferred to do it after my ten hour day rather than before. Skipping is not an option for me. When I began this project I promised myself when I commit to something I will follow through. I say it, and it gets done. I also walked two miles yesterday but I admit I did not eat nearly enough. I will have to improve upon that.
Today is day seven of MelissaBender Fitness workouts, and day seven of being her fitness ambassador.http://www.benderfitness.com/2013/01/lower-body-fat-blaster.html
Yesterdays workout was awesome and I really worked up a sweat. It is amazing how everything else in life feels right on point and happiness quota rises as if on steroids when you get high off your own endorphins.
I am so grateful for this life I live and it never escapes me that so many people are struggling and my heart always goes out to them. That is one reason I do this project, to do a little to make a difference.  Yesterday I met a young girl who is obviously battling cancer, but her smile on her face could light up a starless sky. Inspiration comes in so many forms. Her radiance and positive attitude will stay with me as I continue on in my own journey of this elusive phase we call life, loving every second of feeling totally and utterly alive yet never taking it for granted.
May the sun bring you warmth and the stars light your path

Soaring in the heavens

Good Morning to all. Yesterday was a long day for me, and a rest day from my Melissa Bender Fitness workouts. Tonight is day five, and I work another long day so my workout will be later in the evening. Words cannot convey how motivated and excited I am for the trapeze classes in a few months. I met a couple last night who took the class here in Oakland, California and they said it was amazing and the staff made it so easy.
I feel like I found the fountain of youth. Last year I did yoga on a rooftop heli-pad in Los Angeles and this year I am taking trapeze classes and who knows what else what. I am so happy, I am manifesting my own destiny, and that through trapeze classes I will soar the heavens.
Manifesting my own destiny

I want to swim until I am sunburned and waterlogged. Fall asleep and dream under a bevy of stars on a clear night. I want to drive cross country and write poetry on top of the world at the Empire State Building, and travel back west by train, stop and sketch at the the foot of the majestic Grand Canyon. I want to be ageless, fearless, travel into space and be weightless. To journey to the ends of the earth to face my demons, and journey back and have the last laugh. I want to spend my days creating art and my nights making a difference. To dance forever, soar the heavens, snorkel the seas and live every moment like there is nothing like being totally and utterly alive.

Looking back and forging forward

If you are new to this site , here is a little about where I have been and where I am going. I’m a former dancer, a current poet,  a mostly-poor philanthropist,  a fitness enthusiast and a yogi.  I started this blog in 2013 when I realized how much weight I gained when I quit dancing, and it never occurred to me how much I gained until my photo was taken at an open mic in Los Angeles.  I soon weighed myself, and to my dismay my weight topped over 210 lbs.
As a poet, I wanted to start a blog for some time but I did not want a poetry blog since my first book is to be published by an independent press. I needed something to write about, but it had to be something I was passionate about.
At the same time I wanted to get fit and make all of my fitness goals a reality, including giving back to others and making a difference. I realized when I help others I follow through — but I was not following through for myself. I decided to combine my love of giving back with my weight loss journey and My Change For A Ten (the site you’re currently on) was born. I began my blog to sponsor a charity with every ten pounds I lost — I would then contact the charities before the weight loss to be held accountable. My project began on an exciting note when I was picked to be in a Richard Simmons video and my co-worker Mike offered to be my personal trainer.
In the time since I have lost almost 50 lbs, changed my body and my life and at the same time giving back to numerous charities in Los Angeles. I have done things I would have never dreamed of doing. I ran a 5k and missed the turn and completed the 10k. I now feel fearless and ageless.
I now find myself with a new backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge and continuing my journey here in the San Francisco Bay area. I am now a fitness ambassador for Melissa Bender Fitness and I plan to tackle one of the items on my fitness bucket list: trapeze classes. I am also going to appear in one of Melissa Bender Fitness Videos in three months. Never one to give up, I am reaching for the stars I so love to gaze at.
Starting over in a new city, with lots of new goals and weight loss/ fitness bucket list items to accomplish, as well as new charities to assist. I am looking into doing a raffle and raising money for a local non-profit who desperately needs funds and raffling off something very exciting. Continuing to make a difference in my own life as well as the lives of others. I have never walked alone on this path of mine, and I am eternally grateful to the people I have encountered along the way and the support that was granted to me.  Life is truly a gift and I am so happy I have opened myself up to experiencing the best days of my life.

On The Right Track

Good Morning to all on this beautiful morning. I am on day three of my ambassadorship for Melissa Bender Fitness and I am so enthusiastic about what is to come. I am a little sore today from the workouts.
Honestly, moving from LA to San Francisco left me off track so to speak. This train is moving again and in the direction of being in the best shape of my life. Today is a day off from the workouts, but I am still going to do my cardio — and I have decided to get back to basics on the day off and do one of her beginning videos. If you are a beginner or want to get back to the basics, this video is perfect for you.
This workout encompasses a lot of the basic moves that really work — and at my current stage, they’re great for me. I am having some challenges with my injured toe, which makes going back on my toe difficult in a lunge so I plan on asking Melissa Bender Fitness for some modifications. I am in need of new workout shoes as well as some equipment for home workouts. My fitness to-do shopping list is growing.
I have decided not to focus on the scale, but I will be weighing in again soon and posting my weight. I have also decided I would like to weigh around 135 lbs. I am currently 165.  I have come a long way but I feel I also have a long way to go and I feel a renewed sense of inspiration and motivation. I know I got this. Moving was traumatic but I am now completely back on track.
I was in the play Pippin once, and one of the songs was titled On The Right Track. Perfect for my mood today.

Flying High

Yesterday was day one of Melissa Bender Fitness Bikini prep workouts — it was challenging but in the best way, and I completed all three rounds.

I had to modify the jump plank because of my injured toe so I chose to just regular plank instead.  I also went running outdoors for 30 minutes in the cold, but that fabulous full moon and my music made it all worth while. Nothing like stargazing to remind you we are just traces of tinsel in a vast glittering universe.

I have so much work to do to be ready to fly in three months on the flying trapeze. I admit my dream of taking a trapeze class is a little intimidating, but I am up for the challenge. I have seen the videos and imagined myself suspended in mid air dangling high above the ground with just a net to catch my fall. Exciting and liberating, this is truly going to be a high moment for 2015.

Here’s where we’ll be taking the trapeze class.

This is how I imagine it will feel to fly, terrifying and
exhilarating at the same time. It is like a metaphor for love.

WINGED  GURU

My tortured soul surrenders

My resistant body to a fated flight.

Melancholic melodies of my history,

Caught between memory and reality.

My fickle heartbeat dangles,

Caught in tangled cobwebs

Of here, then and now;  and then.

Escape to the rhythm of lyrical suspense,

Suspended aimlessly without a whim;

Midair swan dive maneuvering

Into the embrace of silken arms;

Whirling together, abandoning myself.

Hanging in the imbalance between

Rhapsody and heartbreak.

Crossroads For 2015

Good morning, all.

I announced recently that I will be a fitness ambassador for Melissa Bender Fitness. I begin Day 1 of the first month of Melissa Bender Fitness bikini competition workouts today.  I am keeping a food journal in the notes of my Facebook page (My Change For A Ten) as well as a breakdown of my workout schedule and my time management with my work and life; the goal is to plan ahead and be prepared. I have a lot of work to do but I am totally enthusiastic and excited about this challenge.

I am working towards being in the best shape of my life. My goal is to be strong enough to take trapeze classes in three months, make an appearance in a Melissa Bender Fitness workout video — as well as deepening my yoga practice.  I moved from LA to San Francisco and I am thrilled for the opportunity to take what I have accomplished in LA and translate it to another level. I lost 45 lbs and I am proud of how far I have come and the charities I assisted along my journey. I am now at a crossroads taking a different direction but still aiming for my ultimate destination of strength, health, and philanthropy with a little help from Melissa Bender Fitness.

My first charity for 2015 will be announced soon.
