NAMASTE’

Here is a poem I wrote when I began my yoga practice a few years ago. Happy Weekend to all. xo

NAMASTE’
Coming from me, a poet and former ballet dancer,
yoga combines the cerebral aspects of my brain with the physical reality of my body;
stanzas gesturing in motion.
As I transition from asana to asana, my mind poses that
age old question; am I one with the universe?
The answer is always a definite yes.
I feel as if I am the salt of the earth below my toes, the clouds hovering above my head.
I realize not only am I one with the earth and the universe, I am so with all creatures;
and one with my sometimes puzzling psyche.
By the time I reach the elusive state of savasana I feel as if I am floating above my body.
I finally return back to earth in prayer pose to recite that final namaste,
in that belated moment of clarity I am reminded of the gratitude I have for being heaven sent yet earth bound.

I MAY BEND BUT I WILL NOT BREAK

Good Morning to all. It is Thursday and I am back to my routine since being out of town, even though my routine for today is a little different since my trainer Mike is out of town. I believe he will be back next Tuesday. My friend Francie invited me to join her at Equinox in Beverly Hills for a ballet class, followed by a stretch class after work and I accepted. She feels this will be a good prerequisite before I join Align Ballet Method. I happen to have shoes, I think they may be too big but they will totally work for this class. I am looking forward to it immensely, getting my ballet toes wet so to speak. I am still doing my burpees and my to do list from Mike. I may bend but I will not break.

Coffee now, darn cats have been so wild since we were away, and they woke me up about three times last night.  Work has been hectic so now I have to bring my clothes with me so I make it to my classes and training sessions on time. I have to overcome the skipping meals issue, it is my biggest challenge now.

Wishing you sunshine and smiles today.
Love and Light.

HITTING MY GOALS

Opening up my back with yoga and workouts

Sometimes progress is slow, and then all of a sudden there it is. My dance instructor back in college would yell every time I would hit a turn on point. I would double or triple pirouette and she would get right in my face and say “there it is. ” Of course it took a lot of hard work to get there, but when I did it felt like a surprise gift.

All of a sudden I feel like someone is yelling at me, “there it is.” I am hitting my goals like I used to hit my turns, and it is definitely a surprise gift. My workouts with my personal trainer Mike are evolving, and he has figured out ways to help me loosen up my quads. It is this issue that keeps me from being able to get into dancers pose or mermaids pose in yoga and I have been frustrated. I want to get there, but I have struggled with it. I think I am on my way, and I am grateful for his expertise and time.We are now working out Tuesday’s and Thursdays. I am going to hit those poses like I used to hit my turns.

My Body is my temple, and I will never let it go to garbage again.

Save The Last Dance For Me – Michael Bublé

MUSIC FEEDS MY SOUL
I am a dancer and a poet, so it is natural that I am motivated and inspired by music. Everything I do has a soundtrack. When I write I sometimes pick a particular harmony to listen to, it wakes up my senses. I wrote a nature poem last night and I was listening to John Denver.  When I dance it is the same thing, my body follows the rhythm of the music. Nothing like doing the Rumba with a partner to Save The Last Dance For Me by Michael Buble. I am listening to it now and I can imagine the movements in my head. Dance and music are a major turn on for me, always has been and always will be. Same thing with ballet, doing the barre portion of a class is intensified when there is a live piano accompaniment, as is your center work. Your leaps get larger and you travel with more gusto across the dance floor. It is a complete high, and that is why I cannot wait to begin dancing again. I do not drink, I dance.

When doing cardio it is much of the same. I find myself moving much quicker and with more zest when I listen to music. It puts that extra pep in my step and makes me get my heart rate up without feeling like I am doing anything harder to get there. I was listening to some very fast classic rock yesterday as I was out speed walking and I decided I would share what was on my playlist as I rocked my speed walk across the miles in West Hollywood. Keep dancing and rock on.  What music do you work out to?
