GOOD WILL TOWARDS MEN

I have been a a little off kilter this week due to Christmas and the holiday season. It has been a wonderful way to end the year, by doing a toy drive and gift drive for the residents at Alexandria House in Los Angeles. Alexandria House is a transitional home for women and children, and it was a home of hope to me. I felt like I had time traveled back to my childhood, to the times before the age of ten when everything seemed so idyllic. I could see the promise of those four walls, and the dedication Judy Vaughan has to keeping the place buzzing with optimism. She is a worker bee, and the nucleus of the home along with all of the other beautiful souls who work so hard to make this house a home for so many that need it. I was so honored to be able to visit and tour the beautiful 1920’s craftsman home and meet the young residents, and I plan on going back to volunteer in 2014.  Within those four walls I felt safe and welcome, it was a magical feeling.

I thank my friend Meagan for the generosity of her time, we had fun.  I would also like to thank everyone at Seasons 52 for their support and generosity, from the management to the staff. No one can go it alone, and I am very grateful for the help they gave to make this gift drive a reality. Thanks to the Management at Seasons 52 in Century City CA. Monica Challingsworth, Isbhak Vasquez, Laura Dennis, Jessica Koine, Veronica Bonnely,Shane Jagow and Lee Velasco.

To quote my favorite Christmas movie It’s a Wonderful Life, ” No man is a failure who has friends.
Happy Holidays to all.

TWENTY POUND CHARITY TOY DRIVE

I am planning my twenty pound charity, and decided to do something that was a perfect fit for December and the season of joy. I decided to do a toy drive for Alexandria House, with the recommendation of a dear friend named Dawn who attends Richard Simmons. I am grateful for her friendship and support.

Here is some information on Alexandria House below. I am organizing my twenty pound charity at my place of employment, Seasons 52 in Century City, CA. with the help of my amazing management and co workers. I am grateful for the support and everyone who is so kind to give a toy to a child at this time of year. My co-worker and friend Meagan and I are delivering the toys December 23rd. I will post more information later this week. The toys are starting to accumulate, and I am really excited. I am beyond grateful and moved to have such kind people in my corner and thank you to Michele and Judy at Alexandria House.

TUESDAY WEIGHT UPDATE

Good Morning to all. I am happy to say I lost the 1 lb I had gained. I now weigh 177 again, and I am hovering at 20 lbs since mid July. Yes, it took me four months to  lose twenty pounds, and it has been easy sticking to healthy eating and working out and yoga, but it has not been easy to get the numbers to go down. I am almost 47, and I recognize the fact that my age make my process much harder. But I am content and happy with my results so far and will continue on and on as long as it takes.  I am hoping to lose up to 10 lbs by the New Year, and I may have to up my cardio to do so. I plan on cheating on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas. I am hoping those cheat days do not derail me. I have not had a cheat day in four months, or a cheat meal for that matter.

So, the 20 lb charity. I have a few ideas and one of them involves Mike my trainer and friend but at the moment that idea may take more time to execute so I am going to plan C for the twenty pound charity. It is Christmas, so I am going to do some things that are close to my heart at this time of year. I am looking for an elderly assisted living home to visit during the holidays, and I have emailed volunteer match for more information. I want to visit once a week. I am hoping to get the information I need soon so I can begin visiting those who need it most.

There is a scene in a movie I love, an old 60’s movie. It is called The Trouble With Angels and it is about these silly girls that go into a Catholic School and make havoc for the nuns. It is all full of slapstick humor and  it is really cute. There is this particular scene that gets me, when they visit the Nursing Home of the elderly and this old woman cries and asks the nun why her children do not come to visit her. It gets me into tears every time. I think it may have been this movie that made me decide that in my life I would  try to help the underprivileged and forgotten ones of society. It has lingered with me all of these years. This works since my goal weight is so far away, and that leaves me with plenty of charities to assist.

Coffee, yes my golden elixir of the morning is needed today. Off to work and then working out and my Iyengar Class. Yesterday I bought some brand new pyrex pie pans at the thrift store for next to nothing. I am making a chocolate pecan pie and an apple crisp for Thanksgiving. Yes, those are not what I usually eat but it is my one cheat day and I feel treats are better homemade then store bought. At very least I know all of the ingredients. I am so excited to cook and bake for the holiday.

Happy Day to all, the sun just popped out for a visit. Wishing you sunshine and smiles and bright energy to guide your day.

MONDAY AGAIN

Good Monday Morning to all, yes it is Monday again. We changed the clocks back this weekend so it is lighter earlier, which I really like in the morning. It makes it much easier to wake up when the sun is up as well.  I took a photo last night to try to update my 20 pound loss from July. I originally took my before photos at CVS in July, and I took a few more there this weekend but I cannot find my camera charger so I will upload those photos as soon as possible. This photo is blurry and my husband was more interested in football. I also posted a photo taken a week ago at Griffith Park.  You can see the difference, even though I feel it is a bit subtle.

I am working on my 20 pound charity, to do done when I hit the 25 pound mark. I feel now I need to kick everything up a notch, and work harder. This will not be easy with the Holidays approaching but I need to get to my 47th Birthday on track with all of my goals. December 21st is approaching fast. Thanksgiving will be a cheat day for me, my first in months.

Wishing everyone a beautiful Autumn Day.

KINDNESS

Good evening to all. This blog post is late, it was a hectic day and tonight we met friends at a sports bar to watch the World Series. Now I am sleepy but I have decided to do a quick post before bed about kindness. Have you ever done a good deed for a stranger and pondered the idea that sometimes we are being tested from above? is it possible we have ever encountered an Angel disguised as a homeless person? Do Angels walk amongst us?

I have been reflecting on a lot of things of late, especially the importance to being kind to strangers. I also have been brainstorming ideas for  my next charity since I am so close to the 20 lb mark. I have been discussing my ideas with Mike my trainer and friend, and I will announce what my plans are in the next week. He is again helping me with my charities and we are teaming up again to make a difference and I am very grateful for that. There is truly no I in the word Team. I could not do this project alone.

So off to bed it is for me. I wish everyone sweet dreams, love and light.
